Frequently asked questions

What is Poople?

Poople is a free daily word ladder game. You start with a four letter word and change one letter at a time until you reach POOP. A new puzzle is shared with every player worldwide at 08:00 UTC each day.

How do I play Poople?

Each day you get a four letter starting word. Enter a new four letter word that differs from the previous word by exactly one letter. Keep going until you reach POOP. The fewer steps you use, the better your score.

Is Poople free, and do I need an account?

Poople is completely free to play. No account, no sign-up, and no app to install. Open the page in any browser and start playing right away. Your progress and stats are saved locally in your browser.

What is a word ladder?

A word ladder is a puzzle where you transform one word into another by changing a single letter at each step, keeping a valid word at every rung. Lewis Carroll invented the concept in 1877 under the name Doublets. Poople is a daily word ladder where the target is always POOP.

What counts as a valid guess?

A valid guess must be a real four letter word found in the dictionary, and it must differ from the previous word by exactly one letter. Words that are not in the dictionary or that change more than one letter are rejected.

Why is every word exactly four letters?

The target word POOP is four letters, so every word in the ladder must also be four letters. This keeps the graph consistent and ensures every step is a single letter change within the same word length.

When does the daily puzzle reset?

A new puzzle goes live every day at 08:00 UTC. Every player in the world receives the same starting word for that day.

Is there a limit to the number of guesses?

There is no limit on the number of guesses you can make. You can take as many steps as you need to reach POOP. Your score is based on how many steps you used compared to the par for that puzzle.

How is my score calculated?

Each puzzle has a par, which is the minimum number of steps needed to reach POOP from the starting word. Finishing in par is the best possible result. Any steps beyond par are counted against your score.

Is there more than one shortest path?

Yes. Many puzzles have several paths that all reach POOP in the same number of steps. The par is always the true minimum, found by an exhaustive graph search. Any route that reaches POOP in par is equally valid.

What is the difference between Daily and Unlimited?

Daily is the one shared puzzle per day that counts toward your streak and stats. Unlimited is a free practice mode that gives you random puzzles on demand, with no effect on your daily streak or statistics.

Where can I see today's or past answers?

Today’s puzzle answer is never shown until the puzzle closes. Once a puzzle ends, its solution is published in the past answers archive. Each entry shows the start word, the par, and the verified shortest path to POOP.

How do I share my result?

When you reach POOP, a share button lets you copy an emoji grid that shows your path without revealing the words you used. You can post it anywhere without spoiling the puzzle for others.

Are my stats saved?

Your streak, wins, and average steps are saved locally in your browser. No account is needed, but clearing your browser data will also clear your stats.

How is Poople different from Wordle?

Wordle asks you to guess one hidden word using letter clues. Poople is a word ladder where you transform a given starting word into POOP by changing one letter at a time. The challenge is finding the shortest route, not identifying a secret word.

Any tips to find the shortest path faster?

Work backward from POOP. Words like COOP, LOOP, POOL, and PROP are one letter away from POOP, so steering toward those in your final steps often shortens the ladder. Swapping the vowel early also tends to open up more options. You can also check the Word Ladder Solver to see the shortest path from any four letter word.

I am stuck and cannot find the next word, what should I do?

Try the Word Ladder Solver. Enter your current word as the start and POOP as the end, and the solver will show you the shortest path from exactly where you are.

Who created Poople, and why POOP?

Poople was built as a lighthearted daily word game. Choosing POOP as the fixed target gives the game its name and a memorable hook. Despite the silly target, the puzzle itself is a genuine word game suitable for all ages.
